Fly Tipping Frenzy- Let’s tackle fly tipping together!

Article Written:

In September, we spoke to residents walking through St.Paul’s Churchyard to find out which areas around Middleport, Longport and Dalehall they thought were most in need of improvement. One key issue that was discussed was fly tipping and littering in the local area. Almost half of the people we spoke to said this was the most prominent local issue in their opinion. One resident said “It gets really bad in the area behind the church and the alleyway. People just leave anything there and it stays there for ages, we’re sick of seeing it”.

Residents also shared their thoughts and rated key local areas as good or bad including greenspaces, the canalside, and Middleport Park. Areas such as the park and the Churchyard had mixed reactions with some people saying they use those places frequently and some saying they don’t as they need improving. One resident said “We don’t use the park anymore, the equipment isn’t safe. It really needs updating and tidying up”.

We already work closely with local residents to reduce litter and report fly tipping in the area, so as a result of the opinions and thoughts shared with us, in October we will be highlighting the importance of residents reporting the fly tipping that they see in Middleport, Longport and Dalehall, and supporting more residents to do this.

We will be encouraging residents to come together and take pride in our local area by reporting fly tipping. We will show people how they can report fly tipping and just how easy it is! We will support those who face barriers to reporting online by getting out and about and reporting on their behalf.
