Weather Power!

Article Written:

Weather is remarkable. It gives the water, warmth and light that plants and animals need to live and grow. It gives us the water we need for drinking, cooking and washing. It can even give us the power to run homes, factories and vehicles. Over summer, we ran three sessions, each focusing on the power of one particular type of weather. We created, tested, and explored with a variety of science-craft activities and demonstrations.

To explore wind power, we made model windmills and did wind painting. In our sun session, we made and used solar ovens. We also made sun viewers, to safely look at the sun indirectly. To investigate the power of rain, we made and tested mini flood defenses from modelling clay and found items.

Throughout the sessions, we talked about the power of nature and the potential to shift to green energy instead of fossil fuels.
