Community Gardening 2024
Article Written:Community Gardening is a safe space for over 18s to visit out community allotment and learn about gardening and outdoor activities such as DIY projects, nature craft and biodiversity. The session also provides a place for likeminded people to socialise and share knowledge and experiences.

You don’t always have to socialise, sometimes it’s a matter of getting your hands in the dirt and focussing on something that empties your brain. Looking after something, nourishing it and watching it grow to then eat it is so rewarding
The group of regular attendees have worked hard this year to keep the allotment running, whilst trying new ideas, techniques and activities.
Our volunteers are essential in the upkeep of Root ‘n’ Fruit, they have a passion for gardening and connect through a shared love of the allotment. They have also now built relationships in and out of the session and are a valuable support network for each other.
The produce grown has been a valuable resource which has been share to local people to encourage healthy eating, growing from home and shared awareness of simple veggie meals you can make on a budget. Excess produce has been donated to the local community supermarket to support the project.

This group helps people to develop skills, enjoy nature in a safe space and has improved many attendees mental wellbeing. Community Gardening is not just for those who love to garden but also a space to relax, explore nature and socialise with others.
All are welcome to join us on Tuesdays, 9.30am – 2.30pm at Root N Fruit, Trubshaw Cross Allotments, Mott Place, ST6 3RH. On arrival you will find a locked green gate, if you ring the doorbell then someone on site will be along shortly to give you access and welcome you to the site.
